Rehabilitation Takes Commitment. Here's Ours:
People with neuro trauma are people. Just like you and I. They have needs, wants, hopes, dreams and aspirations. They have unrealized, untapped capacities, functionality and motivation. They want to lead fulfilling lives; have the freedom to learn, work, socialize and love. Helping a person with a brain injury requires patience, perseverance, perspective, understanding, acceptance and - of course - rehabilitation. Rehabilitation necessitates immense effort by the treatment team and the patient/client. It means a restoration to health through training and therapy by a gently guiding hand. Rehabilitation should stand under scrutiny, be consistent, clinically relevant, goal-oriented and patient-centered.
The social ramifications of neuro trauma are cataclysmic. Brain injury hides behind a mask. The brain injured looks just like you and I. But behind the facade lies one of the most painful of burdens to endure: pervasive loneliness and frustration. The cognitive and executive symptoms combined with affective instability and behavioral symptoms usually sentence the patient to social isolation. As clinicians, we recognize that each patient possesses the capacity to take a chance on themselves; to learn and feel fulfilled; that they have the right to ongoing rehabilitation and opportunities for independence. Although the brain injury may never be cured, the person who survives has the right to the rehabilitation that will, ultimately, help them recover happiness and fulfillment.
Our commitment – as clinicians and a company - is to ensure the very real possibility of our clients achieving their goals. Life Skills Village promotes and supports the following principles:
We integrate these principles into every facet of our programs:

Our commitment – as clinicians and a company - is to ensure the very real possibility of our clients achieving their goals. Life Skills Village promotes and supports the following principles:
- All rehabilitative programs should show outcomes, primarily for functionality.
- Residential placement for brain injury should monitor for living skills (grooming, cleanliness, organization, bill paying, etc).
- Goals should be patient-centered; realistically based on desire, potential and ability.
- The decision regarding where all therapies are provided is clinical.
- All programs and residential facilities should stand scrutiny and provide feedback/discussion with case managers, caregivers and physicians.
We integrate these principles into every facet of our programs:
- Our focus with brain injured clients pinpoints behavioral challenges, which are the most critical and limiting problems after a traumatic brain injury.
- Life Skills Village therapists use evidence-based best-practices to provide targeted and measurable outcomes.
- Behaviorally-based interventions are performed at every stage of recovery.
- Treatment plans are individualized to leverage client goals that provide the motivation for them to successfully complete therapy.
- Each treatment plan is focused on enhancing adjustment, growth, meaning and adding purpose to a client’s life.
- Physicians, caregivers and family involvement is optimized to ensure therapeutic strategies translate to the home and community.
- The adaptive skills learned in the supported domain of The Village are easily transferable to the community.
- Clients continue treatment at LSV until goals are achieved with the expectation of rapid community integration. Post-discharge support is provided through Life Skills Village Academy.
