What is the average length of time a client rehabs at Life Skills Village?

Every brain injury is unique and rehab will require an individualized treatment plan, so length of treatment will vary.
In general, we pride ourselves on helping clients achieve the highest level of independence possible as quickly as possible.  We discharge some within a few months, but more severely injured clients may receive treatment much longer.

Can LSV accommodate clients with physical disabilities?
Yes. All of our facilities are wheelchair accessible.  In addition, many of our modules that contain a physical element (such as ExerLife) provide options for those with physical disabilities.

What can a client expect on the first day of the Rehabilitation Program?
On day one, clients work one-on-one with a neuro rehabilitative therapist to complete our series of intake assessments.  These assessments will help the clinicians determine client goals as well as begin building an individualized treatment plan. Clients usually begin treatment the week after their assessment appointments.

Is all therapy conducted at The Village?
No. We also provide therapy services for some clients at home and in the community. While every client has an individual treatment plan, our ultimate goal is to help them reintegrate into the community.  This could mean anything from starting the supported employment program, volunteering, launching a micro business or participating in one of our social programs.

How should a client dress at LSV?
A good rule of thumb: keep your dress code up to work or school standards.

Is transportation provided?
No. Clients must arrange transportation through their regular channel.  If the activities calendar calls for an outing, transport is provided by our staff or pre-arranged.

Will someone continue to monitor medications while my client is there?
Patients and their caregivers are responsible for medication management before, during and after the scheduled day at LSV.  Our therapists can provide reminders to take medications and build strategies for remembering, but it is ultimately the responsibility of the client’s caregiver or guardian.

Can clients bring food or drink to the Village?
Yes. Snacks and drinks are also available in the Village Market. Lunch may also be provided by the Village Cafe.

Can clients smoke cigarettes during breaks?
Yes. Smoking is allowed only in designated areas outside. Clients are only allowed to smoke during break times in the presence of a Life Skills Village therapist or employee.

Who should a client speak to if s/he has any questions or concerns during their rehab day?
If a client experiences a problem of any kind at Life Skills Village, they are encouraged to discuss it with their therapist, who will help resolve any issues.

Will family or caregivers be involved in their loved one’s treatment?
Family members are encouraged to participate in their loved one’s care.  See Family Services for more information.

Are there options for clients who want to work?
Yes!  We offer a Sheltered Workshop, Supported Employment and a Micro Business Development program for clients motivated to return to work.  Sometimes this requires a period of “work hardening” while the client builds endurance.  From there, a job coach helps the client write a resume, prepare for an interview and even find the right “starter” job. Job coaches continue to work with clients until they are prepared to work on their own or find a higher level position. Behavioral interventions are performed as needed.

Who should I contact to refer or bring in a new patient/client?
If you are a physician or case manager click here to refer a patient.  Once a script is written and faxed to our offices, contact Stefan at Life Skills Village for an initial consultation.

Who should I contact with media questions?
For all media related inquiries, please contact Stefan at 248.788.4300 or email them at marketing@lifeskillsvillage.com.
