George

Pre-Injury Lifestyle
Before his accident, George lived a life many would envy. He had a wife, four step-children and steady job. In his free time, he coached sports, attended church and exercised on a regular basis.
Injury Report
On August 6th, 2011 George was riding as a front-seat passenger in a vehicle that was rear-ended. Medics reported that he was unconscious for several minutes after the accident and later suffered a seizure en route to the hospital. At first glance, hospital physicians did not see the full extent of George’s injuries. He soon began to experience tremors and dizziness. Only days from his discharge, George was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury.
Post-Injury/Pre-Life Skills Village
George was a different man after the accident. Memory loss, frustration and painful physical problems plagued his daily life. He was no longer able to sustain employment. It wasn’t long before his wife filed for divorce and George was forced to move in with his parents. His independence, confidence and sense of life purpose shattered – George knew he needed to do something to get his life back.
Life Skills Village
Life Skills Village helped George prepare to return to independence and rebuild his life. With the help of his therapists, George soon recognized that his primary deficits were cognitive, emotional and behavioral. During his participation in the LSV Day Program, George concentrated on overcoming the obstacles presented by his neuro trauma while leveraging the social experience at The Village. Soon, George saw the positive possibilities in his life. Through the LSV work re-entry program, he found employment in a supported position first at Picasso Pizza and then at St. Mary’s Rehabilitation.
Post Life Skills Village
It wasn't long before George was offered a competitive position as a physical therapy assistant at St. Mary’s Rehab. George has obtained a driver’s license and uses his parent’s vehicle for commuting to and from work. He currently works both as a Store Detective at Meijer and a treatment specialist at Harbor Oaks Psychiatric Hospital.
