Neuropsychological Examinations consist of a collection of standardized tests designed to measure cognition as well as psychological function for effective diagnosis and treatment planning. Life Skills Village employs the prospective co-normed Neuropsychological Assessment Battery (NAB), which is the newest and most reliable of assessments currently available. While tests will vary depending on the patient, we schedule each patient for a one-hour psychological interview prior to testing. The assessments will usually take place on another day and can take from 4 – 8 hours. Patients with brain trauma/injury/illness may find that these lengthy tests can cause fatigue. In these cases, we can administer the testing over multiple appointments and can offer brief screening evaluations to help improve patient compliance. Once the assessments are complete, our clinicians will complete a written evaluation detailing the results of the exam and making rehab relevant recommendations for treatment.
Pain Pump and Spinal Cord Stimulator Assessments
Intrathecal Pain Pumps and Spinal Cord Stimulators are both proven ways to manage chronic pain associated with a wide variety of injuries and illnesses. Prior to the implant surgery, patients are referred for a pre-surgical psychological evaluation. This assessment is used to establish that the patient has a clear vision of the treatment plan and realistic expectations of the implant. It also serves to identify any barriers to positive outcome and suggest means to mitigate those barriers when possible, and to make recommendations regarding treatment of comorbid psychological conditions.
MEDICATION SAFETY EVALUATIONS
Concern regarding medication compliance, aberrant medication behavior, and underlying medication misuse syndromes are addressed by a thorough evaluation of substance use history and standardized psychological tests. Provider prescribers are sent detailed information on their patient on scheduled medications, potential safety concerns, treatment recommendations, and documentation to support appropriate management.
BARIATRIC SURGERY ASSESSMENTS
